Best AI tools that can issue refunds and edit Shopify orders
Compare six AI tools for Shopify refunds and order edits, with actions, approval controls and pricing for each.
Oct 17, 2026
It is 9 p.m. A customer writes: "Wrong size. Cancel it and refund me." The order has not shipped yet. By morning, it might have shipped.
A bot that says "I have passed this request to our team" has missed the window. A tool that can act on the order can still catch it. Gorgias makes the same point on its Shopify actions page: a change needs to happen within minutes or hours of the order, and human agents may be offline.
Two different jobs hide in that one request:
Refund. Money moves back to the customer.
Order edit. The order itself changes: an item, a quantity, an address.
They are not the same risk. A wrong address edit sends a parcel to the wrong place. A wrong refund sends money out the door. The tools below handle each one differently, so it pays to know which one you need first.
Types of AI Order Automation
"Order automation" covers three different levels. Tools get compared as if they were the same, and they are not.
Answering order questions. Tracking, policies, delivery estimates and return rules.
Reading Shopify data. Pulling up the customer's order, payment, fulfillment and item details.
Taking Shopify actions. This is the level that matters for this article:
Issue refunds
Cancel eligible orders
Change quantities
Remove items
Add or replace items
Update shipping information
Apply permitted order changes
Access to Shopify data is not the same as permission to modify it. An AI that can read an order can tell a customer where the parcel is. Changing the order requires separate write access, such as the do andwrite_order_edits scope for committing an edit, plus rules about when it may use it. Every tool below is judged on level 3.
Evaluation Criteria for Shopify AI Tools
Each tool is judged on six questions that can be checked against a vendor's own pages. There is no 1 to 10 "AI quality" score here, because a score like that cannot be reproduced without the same test run on every tool.
Shopify Integration: Is the connection native, app-based, API-based or custom? This information tells you how much setup is required from your team and whether a tool works with ready-made actions or with steps you build.
Refund Actions: Can the tool start and process a refund itself, or does it only help a human agent do it? A tool that drafts a reply about a refund is not the same as one that moves the money.
Order Editing: Can it change an existing order, and which fields or actions exactly? Address, quantity, removing an item, and replacing an item are separate abilities. A vague "edits orders" claim counts for little until the page names them.
Automation Rules: Can you set conditions on what the AI may do? Examples include refunding only for amounts below $50, cancelling only before fulfillment, escalating VIP orders, and requiring approval above a threshold.
Human Handoff: What happens when the AI cannot safely finish the request? Look for a clear path to a person, with the conversation and order context passed along.
Controls and Permissions: Can the merchant limit what the AI is allowed to change? Reading an order and changing it are different permissions, and each action should be switchable on its own.
Quick Glance

Tidio Lyro: Low-cost AI with staff order tools in the same chat panel.
Shopify Sidekick: Order edits for store owners, inside Shopify's order editor.
Richpanel: A help desk with AI actions that wait for your approval.
Best AI Tools for Shopify Orders
Pricing below comes from each vendor's official pricing page, read on October 5, 2026. Plans and prices change, so check the page before you buy.
1. Gorgias AI Agent
Gorgias is a help desk built for online stores, and its AI Agent can act on Shopify orders. The docs list six Shopify actions and say what each one does. Refunds happen inside those actions, so canceling refunds the full amount, and removing an item refunds that item. The agent checks that the order is unfulfilled before it acts. The limits are written down in the same docs, which makes the process the easiest tool on the list to judge before buying.
Features
Cancel order. Cancels an unfulfilled order and refunds the full amount.
Edit shipping address. The shopper confirms the new address first.
Remove or replace an item. Removing refunds that item. We will replace the refunds for the difference if the total decreases.
Reship for free and add an order note. The note leaves a trail for staff, such as "address updated by AI Agent."
Conditions you set. For example, please act only on orders placed within the last 2 hours.
Advantages
Every action and its limits are documented in one place.
The shopper confirms address and item changes before anything changes.
Order-age conditions keep the AI ahead of your fulfillment handoff.
Disadvantages
No standalone refund action is listed, so refunding a shipped order on its own is not documented.
Cancels and address edits only change Shopify, not your 3PL. An address edit cannot work out new tax or shipping costs. Replace handles one item, and a higher total goes to your team.
Pricing
AI Agent: pay per resolved conversation. $0.90 on most plans, from $1 on Starter plans.
Each plan includes a set number of automated interactions per month, from 90 to 2,500+.
Helpdesk plans scale from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month and are not priced per agent.
Best for: stores that want to read exactly what the AI will do and where it stops.
2. YourGPT
YourGPT is a no-code AI platform where agents work with your business data, policies, processes, and rules. For actions, the Functions page lists API Functions that call any REST API, plus Code Functions and MCP servers. The Shopify docs show how to create a Shopify app and an Admin API token with the scopes you choose. Together, this process is a way to build refund and order-edit steps yourself. Those pages do not list ready-made Shopify refund or order-edit actions, so plan to set up and test one flow first.
Features
No-code agents. Built on your business data, policies, processes, and rules.
API Functions. Call any REST API with GET, POST, PATCH, PUT or DELETE.
Code Functions. Written in JavaScript or Python for custom logic.
MCP servers. Connect tools through the Functions page.
Check with Team. The agent asks a teammate instead of guessing. Your team writes the answer, and nothing reaches the customer until staff approves the reply.
Advantages
Your refund rules can be built, down to the exact Shopify call.
A human reviews hard cases before the customer sees a reply.
YourGPT says its Autonomous AI has achieved over 90% resolution in production deployments. That is a production result, not a promise for any one store.
Disadvantages
No ready-made Shopify refund or order-edit actions are listed in the docs.
You create the Shopify Admin API token and set up the functions, so the first flow takes build and test time.
Pricing
Essential: $39 a month billed yearly, or $59 billed monthly.
Professional: $79 a month billed yearly, or $129 billed monthly.
Advanced: $349 a month billed yearly, or $499 billed monthly.
Enterprise: custom pricing.
A free trial is offered on the pricing page.
Best for: teams that want to build their own refund and edit steps, with a teammate approving the more challenging cases.
3. Intercom Fin
Intercom's Fin is an AI agent that works inside the Intercom help desk. For refunds and order changes, Intercom says Fin runs multi-step procedures. A procedure mixes plain-language instructions with fixed business rules. A refund goes through a connected system such as Shopify or Stripe, and cases that need manual approval go to staff with the context attached.
Features
Procedures. Multi-step flows that combine plain-language instructions with fixed rules.
Refunds and order changes. Run through connected systems such as Shopify or Stripe.
Manual approval. Sends a case to staff with context when your rules require it.
Shopify data. Reads orders, tracking, products, carts, and store policies.
Staff actions in the inbox. Edit shipping addresses, cancel, refund, and duplicate orders from the sidebar.
Advantages
Approval points sit inside the flow, where your team writes them.
Procedures let a team encode its refund rules instead of fitting a preset.
Staff and AI work from the same inbox and the same order data.
Disadvantages
Your team sets up refund and edit steps, so there is no pre-built action to switch on.
Fin is priced per outcome, so cost rises with volume.
Pricing
Fin AI Agent: from $0.99 per Fin outcome.
Helpdesk seats: Essential $29, Advanced $85, and Expert $132 per seat per month.
Billing can be monthly or annual.
Best for: teams that want to write their own refund steps and keep approval points inside them.
4. Tidio Lyro
Tidio is a chat and support tool, and Lyro is its AI agent. Tidio's Shopify App Store listing says Lyro acts on orders: refunds, cancellations and order edits, in Shopify or through an API. Tidio's help article covers the manual side, where staff work orders from the chat panel. The listing also says Lyro pauses at your usage limit, so a bill cannot run away.
Features
Order actions by Lyro. Refunds, cancellations and order edits in Shopify or through an API, per the listing.
Staff actions in the chat panel. Please cancel unfulfilled orders, refund the selected items and shipping, and update the shipping address.
Refund ceiling. A refund cannot be more than the customer paid.
Usage cap. Lyro pauses when you reach your limit.
Human handoff. Staff can take over the conversation.
Advantages
Low entry cost, with a free plan and a Lyro add-on.
The usage cap keeps AI spend predictable.
Staff can finish a refund or edit from the same chat panel.
Disadvantages
Native Shopify actions start on the Growth plan, not Free or Starter.
Documented refund caps for the AI itself are not listed.
Pricing
Free: $0 a month, with 50 Lyro conversations (one-off).
Starter: $24.17 a month, 100 billable conversations.
Growth: from $49.17 a month, up to 2,000 billable conversations. Native Shopify actions start here.
Plus: from $300 a month plus monthly usage. Premium: contact Tidio.
Lyro AI Agent add-on: from $32.50 a month, for 50 Lyro conversations.
Best for: small stores that want AI plus a human backstop on a low budget.
5. Shopify Sidekick
Sidekick is Shopify's own AI assistant, and it works for the store owner, not the customer. Shopify's help page says you can ask Sidekick to edit an order: add or remove products, change quantities or apply a discount. Sidekick makes the changes in the order editor for you to review. That page does not mention refunds.
Features
Add or remove products on an order.
Change quantities.
Apply a discount.
Review in the order editor. Sidekick makes the change and you check it before saving.
Built into Shopify. No separate install.
Advantages
Included on every Shopify plan at no extra cost.
You review each change before it is saved.
It works inside the same order editor you already use.
Disadvantages
It is an owner tool and does not answer customers at 9 p.m.
Refunds are not mentioned on the help page, and Shopify's editing rules still apply.
Pricing
Sidekick is included on every Shopify plan.
Basic: $29 a month billed yearly, or $39 billed monthly.
Grow: $79 billed yearly, or $105 billed monthly.
Advanced: $299 billed yearly, or $399 billed monthly.
Plus: from $2,300 per month.
Best for: owners who edit orders themselves.
6. Richpanel
Richpanel is a help desk with AI agents built in. Its AI agents page says actions run against Shopify, Recharge, Loop and Skio. Its Shopify App Store listing adds refunds to what the agents resolve. Control is the main pitch: each action carries its own permission, and a refund waits for approval until you loosen the rules.
Features
Actions across your stack. Tracking, address edits, exchanges, store credit, subscription skips and pauses, cancellations and returns.
Refunds. Listed on the Shopify App Store page and held for approval by default.
Per-action permissions. Lookups can run alone while refunds wait.
Refund limits and approval rules. You set them, along with when to escalate.
Reviewer step. A dollar amount or an order change goes to a reviewer before the reply sends.
Advantages
Approval comes first and gets loosened later, not the other way around.
Covers subscription and exchange work, not only one-off orders.
Where your policy is silent, the AI hands the case to a person.
Disadvantages
Richpanel's pitch is that you move your help desk to it.
Item-level order edits are not listed. Phone is not built in and connects through Aircall, Dialpad, or JustCall.
Pricing
Pro: $69 per agent per month, billed annually. Includes the Self-Service Portal and automation.
Pro Max: $99 per agent per month, billed annually. Adds multi-brand support, advanced analytics, and more channels.
Enterprise: custom pricing for teams with more than 50 agents.
AI agents: about $0.20 per AI-handled conversation, with a $200 monthly AI minimum.
Returns & Exchanges add-on: from $99 a month.
Best for: stores ready to move their help desk and to approve every AI action before loosening the rules.

Limits and Approval Rules for AI Actions
A refund is a write to your money. An edit is a write to your order. Whichever tool you pick, set the rules first.
Start with one job. Cancel-before-fulfillment is the safest one, because Shopify only lets items be edited while they are unfulfilled.
Add an order-age condition. Gorgias provides the example of acting only on orders placed less than 2 hours ago, so the AI stays ahead of your fulfillment handoff.
Make it ask first. Have the AI confirm the change with the customer before it touches the order.
Cap the refund. Decide an amount above which a person decides. Richpanel lets you set refund limits and approval rules. Intercom and Tidio describe ways to route cases to staff. YourGPT's Check with Team function holds a reply until staff approve it.
Check your 3PL. Gorgias says it's canceled. By morning, it might have shipped. and address edits reach Shopify only. Shopify warns that a fulfillment app may not notice an order edit, and an item removed from an order could still ship.
Leave a trail. Gorgias can add a note to the order, such as "address updated by AI Agent," so staff can see what happened.
If you build your own, use an idempotency key on refunds. Shopify requires one on
refundCreateas of API version 2026-04.
Choosing the Right Tool
The six tools are designed for different Shopify support workflows, so the right choice depends on whether you need ready-made order actions, custom refund rules, human approval, or a simple way to edit orders yourself.
Documented Shopify order actions → Gorgias AI Agent. Choose it if you want clearly defined actions for cancellations, address changes, item removals, and replacements, with written limits and confirmation steps.
Custom refund workflows with approval points → Intercom Fin. Choose it if your team wants to define its own refund rules and connect them to Shopify or Stripe, with staff approval for cases that need review.
Custom no-code refund and order-edit flows → YourGPT. Choose it if you want to build actions around your own business rules using API Functions, with staff approval for complex cases.
Budget-friendly AI support for small stores → Tidio Lyro. Choose it if you want AI support with Shopify order actions, a usage cap, and human handoff, keeping in mind that native Shopify actions start on the Growth plan.
Manual order editing in Shopify → Shopify Sidekick. Choose it if you're a store owner who wants AI help adding or removing products, changing quantities, or applying discounts while reviewing changes yourself.
Approval-first automation across support workflows → Richpanel. Choose it if you're willing to move to its help desk and want per-action permissions, refund limits, and reviewer approval before AI actions proceed.
Questions
The cancel and edit actions above are built around unfulfilled orders, and Shopify does not let you change fulfilled items. Gorgias does not list a standalone refund action. Ask each vendor how its AI handles a refund after shipping.
Yes. Shopify exposes
refundCreateand the order edit mutations. You need the right access scopes, such aswrite_order_editsto commit an edit, and an idempotency key on refunds as of API version 2026-04. You also own every safeguard in the list above.Yes. YourGPT agents are no-code and work from your business data, policies, processes and rules. API Functions can call any REST API, including Shopify's Admin API with the access scopes you choose, and Code Functions in JavaScript or Python handle custom logic. That lets refund and order-edit steps follow your own rules, such as an approval limit or an order-age check.
All six have some form of review, but in different places. Intercom Fin sends manual-approval cases to staff with context. Richpanel holds refunds for approval by default and sends dollar amounts and order changes to a reviewer. YourGPT's Check with the team; hold a reply until staff approves it. Gorgias has the shopper confirm address and item changes and hands a replacement that raises the total to your team. Tidio Lyro hands conversations to staff. With Shopify Sidekick, the store owner reviews each change in the order editor.
Entry points differ. Gorgias charges per resolved conversation, at $0.90 on most plans. Intercom Fin starts at $0.99 per outcome, with helpdesk seats starting at $29. YourGPT starts at $39 a month billed yearly. Tidio has a free plan, but native Shopify actions start on Growth at $49.17 a month. Shopify Sidekick is included on every Shopify plan. Richpanel's Pro plan is $69 per agent per month, with AI billed at about $0.20 per conversation. Confirm current prices on each vendor's page.
Cancel-before-fulfillment. Shopify only lets items be edited while they are unfulfilled, so it is the safest job to start with. Run it for a week, read what the AI did order by order, then add the next request type.
Conclusion
Go back to the 9 p.m. message from the top of this post: cancel it and refund me. Whether an AI can handle that depends on what it is allowed to change, who wrote its rules, and where a person steps in. Those are the questions to put to every tool on this list, whatever the demo looks like.
Start small. Let the AI cancel unfulfilled orders only, set a refund limit that sends bigger cases to a person, and review what it did before adding anything else. YourGPT suits stores with refund rules of their own: its agents work from your policies and processes, API Functions can call Shopify's Admin API with the scopes you pick, and Check with Team holds a reply until staff approve it.
