What it is

Claude is Anthropic’s product for conversation, documents, projects, and coding. The web and apps are the front door. Claude Code is the serious coding path for people who want an agent in the terminal and repo.
As of August 2026, individual plans are Free, Pro ($20/mo, annual discount exists), Max 5x ($100), and Max 20x ($200). Team and Enterprise seats cover orgs. Model lineup centers on Haiku, Sonnet 5, and Opus 5, with higher tiers for sustained agent work.
I use Claude when the artifact is language that must hold up: specs, reviews, analyses, careful refactors. It is less of a multimedia carnival than ChatGPT. That is a feature.

Claude writes cleanly. Specs, emails, and reviews need less cleanup than most chat models.
Careful reasoning under load
Extended thinking and Opus-class work help on ambiguous problems. Fewer glib wrong turns when you push it.
Claude Code as a real coding agent
Bundled into paid plans with limits. For repo tasks, this is often stronger than browser chat paste.
Projects and long context habits
Working sets of docs and instructions stick. Good for recurring workstreams, not one-off prompts.
Restraint as product taste
Less feature theater. More focus on answers you can edit into something shippable.
